Forrest Gump<\/b><\/i> is a 1994 American comedy-drama film<\/a> based on the 1986 novel of the same name<\/a> by Winston Groom<\/a>. It was directed by Robert Zemeckis<\/a> and written by Eric Roth<\/a>, and stars Tom Hanks<\/a>, Robin Wright<\/a>, Gary Sinise<\/a>, Mykelti Williamson<\/a>, and Sally Field<\/a>. The story depicts several decades in the life of Forrest Gump<\/a> (Hanks), a slow-witted but kind-hearted man from Alabama<\/a> who witnesses several defining historical events in the 20th century in the United States. The film differs substantially from the novel. Principal photography<\/a> took place in late 1993, mainly in Georgia<\/a>, North Carolina<\/a>, and South Carolina<\/a>. Extensive visual effects<\/a> were used to incorporate Hanks into archived footage and develop other scenes.
