The Good, the Bad and the Ugly<\/b><\/i> (Italian<\/a>: Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo<\/i>, lit.<\/abbr>\u2009”The good, the ugly, the bad”) is a 1966 Italian epic<\/a> Spaghetti Western<\/a> film directed by Sergio Leone<\/a> and starring Clint Eastwood<\/a>, Lee Van Cleef<\/a>, and Eli Wallach<\/a> in their respective title roles.[8]<\/a><\/sup> Its screenplay<\/a> was written by Age & Scarpelli<\/a>, Luciano Vincenzoni<\/a> and Leone (with additional screenplay material and dialogue provided by an uncredited Sergio Donati<\/a>),[9]<\/a><\/sup> based on a story by Vincenzoni and Leone. Director of photography Tonino Delli Colli<\/a> was responsible for the film’s sweeping widescreen<\/a> cinematography<\/a>, and Ennio Morricone<\/a> composed the film’s score<\/a> including its main theme<\/a>. It is an Italian<\/a>-led production with co-producers in Spain, West Germany and the United States.<\/p>\n

In the Southwest during the Civil War, a mysterious stranger, Joe (Clint Eastwood), and a Mexican outlaw, Tuco (Eli Wallach), form an uneasy partnership — Joe turns in the bandit for the reward money, then rescues him just as he is being hanged. When Joe’s shot at the noose goes awry during one escapade, a furious Tuco tries to have him murdered. The men re-team abruptly, however, to beat out a sadistic criminal and the Union army and find $20,000 that a soldier has buried in the desert.<\/span><\/div><\/div><\/span><\/p>\n
