Widows<\/b><\/i> is a 2018 heist film<\/a> directed by Steve McQueen<\/a> from a screenplay by McQueen and Gillian Flynn<\/a>, based upon the 1983 ITV<\/a> series of the same name<\/a>.[2]<\/a><\/sup> A British-American co-production, the film features an ensemble cast<\/a> consisting of Viola Davis<\/a>, Michelle Rodriguez<\/a>, Elizabeth Debicki<\/a>, Cynthia Erivo<\/a>, Colin Farrell<\/a>, Brian Tyree Henry<\/a>, Daniel Kaluuya<\/a>, Jacki Weaver<\/a>, Carrie Coon<\/a>, Robert Duvall<\/a>, and Liam Neeson<\/a>. The plot follows a group of women who attempt a heist in order to pay back a crime boss after their criminal husbands are killed on a botched job. The film was announced in March 2015, with Davis joining the cast in September 2016. The rest of the cast was added in the next several months, and filming began in Chicago<\/a> in May 2017.<\/p>\n

A police shootout leaves four thieves dead during an explosive armed robbery attempt in Chicago. Their widows — Veronica, Linda, Alice and Belle — have nothing in common except a debt left behind by their spouses’ criminal activities. Hoping to forge a future on their own terms, Veronica joins forces with the other three women to pull off a heist that her husband was planning.<\/span><\/div><\/div><\/span><\/p>\n
