WWE Night of Champions<\/b>\u00a0is a\u00a0professional wrestling<\/a>\u00a0pay-per-view<\/a>\u00a0(PPV) and\u00a0livestreaming<\/a>\u00a0event<\/a>\u00a0produced by\u00a0WWE<\/a>, a\u00a0Connecticut<\/a>-based\u00a0professional wrestling promotion<\/a>. The inaugural event took place in June 2007 and was a crossover with\u00a0Vengeance<\/a>\u00a0titled\u00a0Vengeance: Night of Champions<\/a>. In 2008, Vengeance was dropped in favor of Night of Champions and it took over the June PPV slot. The event then moved to July in 2009 before becoming the annual September PPV beginning in 2010. The original concept of Night of Champions was that every championship promoted on WWE’s main roster was contested. In 2016, Night of Champions was replaced by the similarly themed\u00a0Clash of Champions<\/a>. After eight years, Night of Champions was revived to be held in\u00a0May 2023<\/a>\u00a0as WWE’s\u00a0ninth event in Saudi Arabia<\/a>. Although the 2023 event was based around championship matches, not all of WWE’s main roster championships were contested.<\/p>\n

To coincide with the original\u00a0WWE brand extension<\/a>\u00a0(2002\u20132011), the events from 2007 to 2010 featured wrestlers from the\u00a0Raw<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0SmackDown<\/a>\u00a0brands. The events from 2007 to 2009 also featured the\u00a0ECW<\/a>\u00a0brand before that brand was dissolved in early 2010. During the first brand extension, these three brands were considered WWE’s main roster. The brand extension ended in August 2011, but was reinstated in 2016 with the 2023 event to feature wrestlers from Raw and SmackDown.<\/div><\/div><\/span><\/p>\n
