The plot follows a musician and an aspiring actress who meet and fall in love in Los Angeles<\/a>. The film’s title is a reference both to a nickname for the city of Los Angeles[clarification needed<\/span><\/a><\/i>]<\/sup> and to the idiom<\/a> for being out of touch with reality. La La Land<\/i> had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival<\/a> on August 31, 2016, and was released in the United States on December 9, 2016, by Summit Entertainment<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The film was critically acclaimed and has grossed $90 million worldwide.
