Patriots Day<\/i> stars Mark Wahlberg<\/a>, J. K. Simmons<\/a>, John Goodman<\/a>, Kevin Bacon<\/a>, and Michelle Monaghan<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Principal photography<\/a> began on March 29, 2016, in Quincy<\/a> and Boston<\/a>, Massachusetts<\/a>. The film premiered on November 17, 2016, at the AFI Fest<\/a>. Distributed by CBS Films<\/a> and Lionsgate<\/a>, Patriots Day<\/i> opened in a limited release<\/a> on December 21, 2016, to be followed by a nationwide expansion<\/a> on January 13, 2017. The film was chosen by National Board of Review<\/a> as one of the top ten films of 2016.<\/p>\n

Tragedy strikes on April 15, 2013, when two bombs explode during the Boston Marathon. In the aftermath of the attack, police Sgt.
