Cruel Intentions<\/b><\/i>\u00a0is a 1999 American\u00a0teen<\/a>\u00a0romantic<\/a>\u00a0drama<\/a>\u00a0film written and directed by\u00a0Roger Kumble<\/a>\u00a0and starring\u00a0Sarah Michelle Gellar<\/a>,\u00a0Ryan Phillippe<\/a>,\u00a0Reese Witherspoon<\/a>, and\u00a0Selma Blair<\/a>. The film is an adaptation of the novel\u00a0Les Liaisons dangereuses<\/a><\/i>, written by\u00a0Pierre Choderlos de Laclos<\/a>\u00a0in 1782, but set among wealthy teenagers attending high school in New York City instead of 18th-century France.[3]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n

The film received two\u00a0direct-to-video\u00a0follow-ups\u2014a\u00a0prequel<\/a>\u00a0titled\u00a0Cruel Intentions 2<\/a><\/i>\u00a0in 2001 and a\u00a0sequel<\/a>\u00a0titled\u00a0Cruel Intentions 3<\/a><\/i>\u00a0in 2004.
