The BFG<\/b><\/i> is a 2016 American fantasy<\/a> adventure film<\/a> directed and co-produced by Steven Spielberg<\/a>, written by Melissa Mathison<\/a> and based on the 1982 novel of the same name<\/a> by Roald Dahl<\/a>. The film stars Mark Rylance<\/a>,Ruby Barnhill<\/a>, Penelope Wilton<\/a>, Jemaine Clement<\/a>, Rebecca Hall<\/a>, Rafe Spall<\/a> and Bill Hader<\/a>. In the film, an orphan human girl befriends a benevolent giant<\/a>, dubbed the “Big Friendly Giant”, who takes her to Giant Country where they attempt to stop the man-eating giants that are invading the human world.<\/p>\n

Kathleen Kennedy<\/a> and Frank Marshall<\/a> began development on a live-action<\/a> adaptation<\/a> of The BFG<\/i> back in the 1990s, and various screenwriters were hired to work on the screenplay in the subsequent years. DreamWorks<\/a>acquired the screen rights<\/a> to Dahl’s book in September 2011, and Marshall and Sam Mercer<\/a> joined as producers, Mathison as screenwriter, and Kennedy as executive producer. Spielberg was announced as director in April 2014, alongside his production company Amblin Entertainment<\/a> as co-producer. Principal photography<\/a> commenced in March 2015, marking Spielberg’s first directorial film for Walt Disney Pictures<\/a>.[4]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n

The film received generally positive reviews from critics, though the film was a box office disappointment<\/a> according to analysts, with a worldwide gross of $176 million on a $140 million budget.<\/p>\n

Ten-year-old Sophie is in for the adventure of a lifetime when she meets the Big Friendly Giant (Mark Rylance). Naturally scared at first, the young girl soon realizes that the 24-foot behemoth is actually quite gentle and charming. As their friendship grows, Sophie’s presence attracts the unwanted attention of Bloodbottler, Fleshlumpeater and other giants. After traveling to London, Sophie and the BFG must convince Queen Victoria to help them get rid of all the bad giants once and for all.<\/div><\/div>\n
