Masaan<\/b><\/i> (transl.<\/abbr>\u2009Crematorium; also known as Fly Away Solo<\/b><\/i> in English) is a 2015 drama film<\/a> directed by Neeraj Ghaywan<\/a>.[1]<\/a><\/sup> The directorial debut film is an Indo-French co-production produced by Drishyam Films<\/a>, Macassar Productions, Phantom Films<\/a>, Sikhya Entertainment<\/a>, Arte France Cinema and Path\u00e9 Productions<\/a>.[2]<\/a><\/sup> It was screened in the Un Certain Regard<\/a> section at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival<\/a> winning two awards.[3]<\/a><\/sup>[4]<\/a><\/sup>[5]<\/a><\/sup> Ghaywan previously assisted Anurag Kashyap<\/a> on Gangs Of Wasseypur<\/i>.[6]<\/a><\/sup>[7]<\/a><\/sup> The film was screened at the inaugural New York Dalit Film and Cultural Festival in 2019 along with Pariyerum Perumal<\/a><\/i> (2018), Kaala<\/a><\/i> (2018) and Fandry<\/a><\/i> (2013).[8]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n

<\/span>Four lives intersect along the Ganges: a low caste boy hopelessly in love, a daughter ridden with guilt of a sexual encounter ending in a tragedy, a hapless father with fading morality, and a spirited child yearning for a family, long to escape the moral constructs of a small-town. Two stories- one involving a father-daughter tormented by the orthodox architecture of a small-town, another following the musings of a young couple from different castes, meander along the shores of the Ganges, as the river of life touches them in different ways, destined to coalesce at the Sangam Allahabad.<\/p>\n
