The Nightingale<\/b><\/i> is a 2018 Australian period<\/a> thriller film<\/a> written, co-produced, and directed by Jennifer Kent<\/a>. Set in 1825 in the British penal colony<\/a> of Van Diemen’s Land<\/a> (now the Australian state of Tasmania<\/a>), the film follows a young convict<\/a> woman seeking revenge for a terrible act of violence committed against her family. It stars Aisling Franciosi<\/a>, Sam Claflin<\/a>, Baykali Ganambarr, and Damon Herriman<\/a>. The film was released on August 2, 2019, by IFC Films<\/a> in the United States, and on August 29, by Transmission Films<\/a> in Australia.<\/p>\n

Set in 1825, Clare, a young Irish convict woman, chases a British officer through the rugged Tasmanian wilderness, bent on revenge for a terrible act of violence he committed against her family.
