Omar<\/b><\/i> (Arabic<\/a>: \u0639\u064f\u0645\u064e\u0631\u0652<\/big><\/span>\u200e) or Omar Farouk<\/b><\/i> (Persian<\/a>: \u0639\u0645\u0631 \u0641\u0627\u0631\u0648\u0642<\/span>\u200e) is a historical<\/a>[1]<\/a><\/sup>[2]<\/a><\/sup> Arab television drama<\/a> miniseries<\/a>-serial that was produced and broadcast by MBC1<\/a> and directed by the Syrian director Hatem Ali<\/a>.[3]<\/a><\/sup> Co-produced by Qatar TV<\/a>, the series is based on the life of Omar ibn Al-Khattab<\/a>, the second Caliph of Islam<\/a>, and depicts his life from 18 years old until the moments of his death.[3]<\/a><\/sup> The series had to face large controversy[4]<\/a><\/sup>[5]<\/a><\/sup>[6]<\/a><\/sup>[7]<\/a><\/sup>[8]<\/a><\/sup>[9]<\/a><\/sup>[10]<\/a><\/sup> due to its depiction of Omar, Abu Bakr<\/a>, Uthman<\/a> and Ali<\/a>, the four Rashidun Caliphs<\/a>,[11]<\/a><\/sup> along with other characters, who some Muslims believe should not be depicted, much like Mohammad<\/a>. The series consists of 30 episodes and was originally aired in the month of Ramadan<\/a> since July 20, 2012.[12]<\/a><\/sup>[13]<\/a><\/sup>[14]<\/a><\/sup> It was made at a cost of 200 million Saudi riyals<\/a> and filmed in Morocco<\/a>, primarily in the cities of Marakesh<\/a>, Tangiers<\/a>, El Jadida<\/a>, Casablanca<\/a> and Mohammedia<\/a>. After the series was broadcast on MBC, it was dubbed into several languages for international broadcast[15]<\/a><\/sup>[16]<\/a><\/sup>[17]<\/a><\/sup> and subtitled in English on YouTube<\/a>; it received great support from many different scholarly bodies and people watching it.[18]<\/a><\/sup>[19]<\/a><\/sup>[20]<\/a><\/sup> As the series depended largely on reliable historical established facts, the series did not face criticism in terms of its content, as past films faced.<\/p>\n
