The Raid<\/b><\/i> (Indonesian<\/a>: Serbuan maut<\/i>, lit.<\/a>\u00a0<\/small>‘The Deadly Raid’) is a 2011[6]<\/a><\/sup> Indonesian action film<\/a> written, directed and edited by Gareth Evans<\/a>. The film stars Iko Uwais<\/a>, who previously worked with Evans in another action film, Merantau<\/a><\/i>, released in 2009. In the film, an elite squad is tasked to infiltrate a high-rise building\u00a0\u2013 run by a ruthless drug lord\u00a0\u2013 located in the slums of Jakarta<\/a>; among them is Rama (played by Uwais), a rookie member of the team. After its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival<\/a> (TIFF), The Raid<\/i> received positive reviews from critics.[7]<\/a><\/sup>[8]<\/a><\/sup>[9]<\/a><\/sup> The name of the film was changed to The Raid: Redemption<\/b><\/i> in the United States as distributor Sony Pictures Classics<\/a> could not secure the rights to the title; it also allowed Evans to plan out future titles in the series.[10]<\/a><\/sup>[11]<\/a><\/sup> The US release of the film features a film score<\/a> composed by Mike Shinoda<\/a> and Joseph Trapanese<\/a>. It was released in the United States on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on 14 August 2012.[12] <\/a><\/sup>A sequel, The Raid 2<\/a><\/i>, was released in 2014. Both films showcase the traditional Indonesian martial art Pencak Silat<\/a>, with fight choreography<\/a> led by Uwais and Yayan Ruhian<\/a>. A third film was initially planned for release in 2018 or 2019,[13]<\/a><\/sup> but never materialized.<\/p>\n
