The Man Who Knew Infinity<\/b><\/i> is a 2015 British biographical<\/a> drama<\/a> film based on the 1991 book of the same name<\/a> by Robert Kanigel<\/a>. The film stars Dev Patel<\/a> as the real-life Srinivasa Ramanujan<\/a>, a mathematician who after growing up poor in Madras, India, earns admittance to Cambridge University<\/a> during World War I<\/a>, where he becomes a pioneer in mathematical theories with the guidance of his professor, G. H. Hardy<\/a> (played by Jeremy Irons<\/a>despite Hardy being only 10 years older than Ramanujan).<\/p>\n

Filming began in August 2014 at Trinity College, Cambridge<\/a>. The film had its world premiere as a gala presentation at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival<\/a>\u00a0and was selected as the opening gala of the 2015Zurich Film Festival<\/a>.\u00a0It also played other film festivals including Singapore International Film Festival<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>and Dubai International Film Festival<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Distinguished mathematicians Manjul Bhargava<\/a> and Ken Ono<\/a> are Associate Producers of the film.\u00a0b<\/span>Ono, the mathematics consultant, is a Guggenheim Fellow<\/a>, and Bhargava is a winner of the Fields Medal<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The story of the life and academic career of the pioneer Indian mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan, and his friendship with his mentor, Professor G.H. Hardy.<\/div><\/div>\n
