Star Trek<\/b><\/i> is a 2009 American science fiction film<\/a> directed by J. J. Abrams<\/a> and written by Roberto Orci<\/a> and Alex Kurtzman<\/a>. It is the eleventh film in the Star Trek<\/i> film franchise<\/a>, and is also a reboot<\/a> that features the main characters of the original Star Trek<\/i> television series<\/a> portrayed by a new cast, as the first in the rebooted film series. The film follows James T. Kirk<\/a> (Chris Pine<\/a>) and Spock<\/a> (Zachary Quinto<\/a>) aboard USS Enterprise<\/i><\/a> as they combat Nero<\/a> (Eric Bana<\/a>), a Romulan<\/a> from their future who threatens the United Federation of Planets<\/a>. The story takes place in an alternate reality<\/a>[3]<\/a><\/sup>[4]<\/a><\/sup> because of time travel<\/a> by both Nero and the original Spock (Leonard Nimoy<\/a>). The alternate timeline was created in an attempt to free the film and the franchise from established continuity<\/a> constraints while simultaneously preserving original story elements.<\/p>\n

<\/span>In the 23rd century, the Federation<\/a> starship<\/a> USS Kelvin<\/i> is investigating a “lightning storm” in space. A Romulan<\/a> ship, Narada<\/i>, emerges from the storm and attacks the Kelvin<\/i>. Narada<\/i>‘<\/span>s first officer<\/a>, Ayel, demands that Kelvin<\/i>‘<\/span>s Captain Robau come aboard to negotiate a truce. Robau is questioned about the current stardate<\/a> and an “Ambassador Spock<\/a>“, whom he does not recognize. Narada<\/i>‘<\/span>s commander, Nero<\/a>, kills him, and resumes attacking the Kelvin<\/i>. George Kirk, Kelvin<\/i>‘<\/span>s first officer, orders the ship’s personnel, including his pregnant wife Winona, to abandon ship while he pilots the Kelvin<\/i> on a collision course with Narada<\/i>. Kirk sacrifices his life to ensure Winona’s survival as she gives birth to James T. Kirk<\/a>.Seventeen years later on the planet Vulcan<\/a>, a young Spock is accepted to join the Vulcan Science Academy. Realizing that the Academy views his human mother Amanda as a “disadvantage”, he joins Starfleet<\/a> instead. On Earth<\/a>, Kirk becomes a reckless but intelligent young adult. Following a bar fight with Starfleet cadets accompanying Nyota Uhura<\/a>, Kirk meets Captain Christopher Pike<\/a>, who encourages him to enlist in Starfleet Academy<\/a>, where Kirk meets and befriends doctor Leonard McCoy<\/a>.<\/div><\/div><\/span><\/p>\n
