Resident Evil<\/b><\/i> is an action horror<\/a> science fiction<\/a> film series loosely based on the Capcom<\/a> survival horror<\/a> video game series of the same name<\/a>. German studio Constantin Film<\/a> bought the rights to adapt the series to film in January 1997. In 2001, Screen Gems<\/a> acquired distribution rights and hired Paul W. S. Anderson<\/a> as writer and director for Resident Evil<\/a><\/i> (2002). Anderson continued as writer and producer for Resident Evil: Apocalypse<\/a><\/i> (2004) and Resident Evil: Extinction<\/a><\/i> (2007), and returned as the director for Resident Evil: Afterlife<\/a><\/i> (2010), Resident Evil: Retribution<\/a><\/i> (2012), and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter<\/a><\/i> (2016). The films follow Alice<\/a> (Milla Jovovich<\/a>), a character created for the films, who battles the Umbrella Corporation<\/a>, whose bioweapons<\/a> have triggered a zombie apocalypse<\/a>. Characters from the games also appear, including Jill Valentine<\/a>, Carlos Olivera<\/a>, Claire Redfield<\/a>, Albert Wesker<\/a>, Chris Redfield<\/a>, Barry Burton<\/a>, Leon S. Kennedy<\/a>, Ada Wong<\/a> and James Marcus<\/a>. The Resident Evil<\/i> film series is the highest-grossing film series based on a video game<\/a>, having grossed over $1.2 billion worldwide.<\/p>\n

<\/span>Underneath Raccoon City<\/a> exists a genetic research<\/a> facility called the Hive, owned by the Umbrella Corporation<\/a>. A thief steals the genetically engineered T-virus and contaminates the Hive with it. In response, the facility’s artificial intelligence<\/a>, the Red Queen<\/a>, seals the Hive and kills everyone inside. Alice<\/a> awakens in the bathroom of a deserted mansion with temporary amnesia. She dresses, checks the mansion, and is tackled by an unknown person as a group of commandos led by James Shade breaks in. Alice\u2019s attracker is cuffed and then released when he claims to be Matt Addison, who just transferred as a cop in Raccoon P.D. Alice and Matt are ordered to go down to the Hive with the group, where they find another amnesiac, Spence, hidden in their train. The commandos explain that everyone in the group except Matt is an employee of the Umbrella Corporation, and Alice and her partner Spence were assigned to guard the Hive\u2019s secret entrance under the mansion.<\/div><\/div><\/span><\/p>\n
