Singin’ in the Rain<\/b><\/i> is a 1952 American musical<\/a>–romantic comedy<\/a> film directed and choreographed<\/a> by Gene Kelly<\/a> and Stanley Donen<\/a>, starring Kelly, Donald O’Connor<\/a>, and Debbie Reynolds<\/a>. It offers a lighthearted depiction of Hollywood<\/a> in the late 1920s, with the three stars portraying performers caught up in the transition from silent films<\/a> to “talkies<\/a>“. The film was only a modest hit when first released. Donald O’Connor won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor \u2013 Motion Picture Musical or Comedy<\/a>, and Betty Comden<\/a> and Adolph Green<\/a> won the Writers Guild of America Award<\/a> for their screenplay, while Jean Hagen<\/a> was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress<\/a>. However, it has since been accorded legendary status by contemporary critics, and is frequently regarded as the best film musical ever made,[3]<\/a><\/sup> and the best film ever made in the “Freed Unit<\/a>” at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer<\/a>. It topped the AFI’s Greatest Movie Musicals<\/a> list and is ranked as the fifth-greatest American motion picture of all time in its updated list of the greatest American films<\/a> in 2007. In 1989, the United States Library of Congress<\/a> selected the film for preservation in the National Film Registry<\/a>. In 2005 the British Film Institute included it in their list of the 50 films you should see by the age of 14<\/a>. In Sight & Sound<\/a> magazine’s 2017 list of the 50 greatest films of all time, Singin’ in the Rain<\/i> placed 20th.<\/p>\n

When the transition is being made from silent films to `talkies’, everyone has trouble adapting. Don and Lina have been cast repeatedly as a romantic couple, but when their latest film is remade into a musical, only Don has the voice for the new singing part.
