Captain America: Civil War<\/b><\/i> is a 2016 American superhero film<\/a> featuring the Marvel Comics<\/a> character Captain America<\/a>, produced by Marvel Studios<\/a> and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures<\/a>. It is the sequel to 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger<\/a><\/i> and 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier<\/a><\/i>, and the thirteenth film<\/a> of the Marvel Cinematic Universe<\/a> (MCU). The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo<\/a>, with a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely<\/a>, and features an ensemble cast<\/a>, including Chris Evans<\/a>, Robert Downey Jr.<\/a>, Scarlett Johansson<\/a>, Sebastian Stan<\/a>, Anthony Mackie<\/a>, Don Cheadle<\/a>, Jeremy Renner<\/a>, Chadwick Boseman<\/a>, Paul Bettany<\/a>, Elizabeth Olsen<\/a>, Paul Rudd<\/a>, Emily VanCamp<\/a>, Tom Holland<\/a>, Frank Grillo<\/a>, William Hurt<\/a> and Daniel Br\u00fchl<\/a>. In Captain America: Civil War<\/i>, disagreement over international oversight of the Avengers<\/a>fractures them into opposing factions\u2014one led by Steve Rogers and the other by Tony Stark<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Development of Civil War<\/i> began in late 2013 when Markus and McFeely began writing the screenplay, which borrows concepts from the 2006 comic book storyline Civil War<\/a><\/i>, while also focusing on story and character elements from the previous Captain America<\/i> films to conclude the trilogy. Following positive reactions to test screenings of The Winter Soldier<\/i>, the Russo brothers were brought back to direct in early 2014. The film’s title and premise were revealed in October 2014, along with Downey’s casting; additional cast members joined in the following months. Principal photography began in April 2015 at Pinewood Atlanta Studios<\/a> in Fayette County, Georgia<\/a>, and continued in the Metro Atlanta<\/a> area before concluding in Germany in August 2015, with the film being the first to use IMAX<\/a>‘s digital 2D cameras (for the film’s central “splash panel<\/a>“-inspired fight sequence).Visual effects<\/a> were provided by nearly 20 different studios during the post production<\/a> process.<\/p>\n

Captain America: Civil War<\/i> held its world premiere in Los Angeles<\/a> on April 12, 2016, and was released in the United States<\/a> on May 6, 2016, in 3D and IMAX 3D. The film became a critical and commercial success, grossing over $1.1 billion worldwide and becoming the 12th highest-grossing film of all time<\/a>.<\/p>\n
