The Divergent Series: Allegiant<\/b><\/i> (also known simply as Allegiant<\/b><\/i>, as credited onscreen) is a 2016 American science fiction<\/a> adventure film<\/a> directed by Robert Schwentke<\/a> with a screenplay by Stephen Chbosky<\/a>, Bill Collage, Adam Cooper, and Noah Oppenheim<\/a>. It is the first of two cinematic parts based on the novel Allegiant<\/a><\/i>, the final book in the Divergent<\/i> trilogy<\/a> by Veronica Roth<\/a>, and the third installment in The Divergent Series<\/a><\/i>,\u00a0produced by Lucy Fisher<\/a>, Pouya Shabazian, and Douglas Wick<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The film stars Shailene Woodley<\/a>, Theo James<\/a>, Jeff Daniels<\/a>, Octavia Spencer<\/a>,Ray Stevenson<\/a>, Zo\u00eb Kravitz<\/a>, Miles Teller<\/a>, Ansel Elgort<\/a>, Maggie Q<\/a>, Bill Skarsg\u00e5rd<\/a>, and Naomi Watts<\/a>. It is the sequel<\/a> to Insurgent<\/a><\/i> and will be followed by the concluding entry, Ascendant<\/a><\/i> (Allegiant<\/i> and Ascendant<\/i> were originally to be titled Allegiant \u2013 Part 1<\/i> and Allegiant \u2013 Part 2<\/i>).<\/p>\n

Allegiant<\/i> was released on March 18, 2016 in theaters and IMAX\u00a0and was panned by critics.\u00a0The film also was a box office bomb<\/a>, grossing $66.2 million domestically and $110.7 million in foreign markets.\u00a0This led to budget cuts on the fourth and final installment in the series, Ascendant<\/i>, set to be released on June 9, 2017.<\/p>\n

Tris (Shailene Woodley) escapes with Four (Theo James) to journey beyond the wall that encloses Chicago. For the first time, they leave the only city and family they have ever known to find a peaceful solution. Once outside, they learn shocking new truths that render old discoveries meaningless. As the ruthless battle threatens humanity, Tris and Four quickly decide who to trust to survive. Tris must ultimately make difficult choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice and love.<\/span><\/p>\n
